That’s how you live a great story.

MDA Summer Camp at Camp Courageous in Iowa, Supported by the Sam Osborn Memorial Foundation
The Sam Osborn Memorial Foundation proudly funds the Iowa MDA Summer Camp at Camp Courageous, ensuring it remains completely free for families. This camp held a special place in Sam’s heart—it was a haven where he created cherished memories, built lifelong friendships, and discovered the power of self-advocacy.
MDA Summer Camp is a residential camping program available to youth aged 8–17 living with neuromuscular diseases. Celebrating its 70th anniversary next summer, the program offers multiple week-long session options at fully accessible recreation facilities nationwide. No matter the location, MDA Summer Camp provides a fully inclusive environment where campers can express themselves freely and participate in adaptive summer camp activities designed for all abilities.
Thanks to the generous supporters of the Sam Osborn Memorial Golf Outing and the Sam Osborn Memorial Foundation, MDA utilizes the Camp Courageous facility each summer by providing funding and programmatic support for one week of residential camp for campers living with neuromuscular diseases.
Congenital Research Sponsored by the Sam Osborn Memorial Foundation
Funds from the Sam Osborn Memorial Foundation are being awarded to Dr. Carsten Bönnemann of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Bönnemann and his team are utilizing cutting-edge technologies to develop genetic medicines for the treatment of congenital muscular dystrophies (CMDs).
CMDs are a group of genetic disorders that cause muscle weakness, progressive contractures, and respiratory failure, with no effective treatments currently available. Dr. Bönnemann’s research leverages CRISPR, a Nobel Prize-winning technology, to permanently inactivate the disease-causing genetic message encoded in patients’ DNA. This approach will first be tested in patient-derived cells before advancing to animal models of CMD.
Initial evidence of success in treating collagen VI-related dystrophies will serve as proof of concept for applying this therapeutic approach to other forms of CMD caused by dominant mutations, such as LMNA-related disease.
Children's Nebraska Foundation
Delivering extraordinary care for extraordinary kids.
Children's Nebraska Foundation holds a special place in Sam Osborn's story and continues to be a beacon of hope for countless families across our region. As a beneficiary of the Annual Sam Osborn Memorial Golf Tournament, Children's Nebraska carries forward the spirit of compassion, innovation, and unwavering support that defined Sam's experiences within their walls. The funds raised through this tournament help ensure that every child, regardless of their medical challenges, receives the exceptional care they deserve.
Sam's journey with Children's Nebraska exemplified the hospital's commitment to treating not just the condition, but caring for the whole child and their family. His bright spirit and infectious smile were well-known throughout the hospital halls, where he received specialized care that helped him live life to the fullest for 17 remarkable years. Sam's story reflects the deeper truth that every child at Children's Nebraska is more than their diagnosis — they are dreamers, achievers, and inspirations to all who know them.
As the region's only full-service pediatric healthcare center, Children's Nebraska provides vital care to more than 150,000 children each year. The organization’s state-of-the-art facilities, coupled with world-class medical expertise, ensure that families don't have to travel far from home to receive the highest level of pediatric care. From specialized treatment programs and cutting-edge research to family support services and child life programs that bring joy to difficult days, Children's Nebraska creates an environment where healing and hope go hand in hand.
Every contribution to Children's Nebraska through the Sam Osborn Memorial Golf Tournament helps sustain and expand these essential services, ensuring that all children have access to extraordinary care. Together, we honor Sam's legacy by supporting an institution that continues to transform the lives of countless children and families, making every day count just as Sam did throughout his inspiring life.
Elkhorn Athletic Association (EAA)
Empowering adaptive athletes to thrive.
Elkhorn Athletic Association (EAA) is honored to play a part in and be a recipient of the Annual Sam Osborn Memorial Golf Tournament. Funds from the event and auction that go to EAA will go directly to construction costs of our Adaptive Sports Field, building a memorial and sculpture dedicated to Sam, amenities for adaptive athletes, and future programming for adaptive sports leagues and events. We have a generous donor who has pledged to match all funds up to $1.5 million for this Adaptive Sports campaign.
Sam grew up and lived in Elkhorn and was a friend to anyone who crossed his path, including countless members of our community, staff, board members, families, and young athletes we serve. Part of Sam's great story was his involvement, passion, and dedication to sports, specifically wheelchair sports while playing at All-Play in Omaha. EAA is constructing the third Adaptive Sports facility in the state at our new 96-acre SportsPlex in Valley. This will give families another option to play in Western Douglas County as well as a closer drive from surrounding towns and counties if transportation is a barrier. Our Adaptive Sports Field and adjacent areas will always be open and free to use.
EAA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit youth sports organization that serves over 8,000 kids in 10 sports from over 20 zip codes. We are dedicated to providing a safe, enjoyable, positive learning environment. We serve families with children of all ages and all skill levels from the community and across the region. We encourage and support the holistic development of every child, teach leadership and other essential skills, and inspire our athletes to seek excellence in all aspects of their lives. We accomplish this by encouraging parental involvement and by providing professional staff, state-of-the-art facilities, and programs commensurate with ability, potential, and interest at the developmental, recreational, and competitive levels. We believe sports are for ALL and will not turn away any child or family based on ability or financial needs.
